By using Ignis, you agree to these terms. Please read them — they're written to be straightforward, not to confuse you.

1. About Ignis

Ignis Study ("Ignis", "we", "us") is a revision resource sharing platform for students and teachers in the United Kingdom. We are currently operating as an unregistered trading name based in England. These Terms govern your use of the Ignis website and all associated services.

2. Who Can Use Ignis

You may use Ignis if you are:

  • A student aged 13 or over
  • A teacher or educator at a UK institution
  • An adult learner (registered as a Learner account)

If you are under 13, you may not create an account. If you are between 13 and 18, you confirm that you have permission from a parent or guardian to use this platform.

3. Your Account

Registration

You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity under your account.

Teacher Verification

Teachers are verified through one of three methods: institutional email domain (e.g. .sch.uk, .ac.uk), school administrator confirmation, or manual review. Submitting false information to obtain teacher status is a breach of these Terms and may result in account termination.

Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, upload inappropriate content, or engage in abuse of the platform or its users.

4. Content You Upload

Ownership

You retain ownership of the revision materials you upload. By uploading, you grant Ignis a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, and make your content available to other users on the platform.

What You Must Not Upload

  • Content you do not have the right to share (e.g. copyrighted exam papers without permission)
  • Offensive, discriminatory, or harmful material
  • Misleading or deliberately incorrect revision content
  • Personal data of other people without their consent
  • Anything illegal under English law

Moderation

All uploads are subject to review. We may remove content that violates these rules without notice. Users can report content they believe is inappropriate.

5. Pro Subscriptions & Payments

Ignis offers free and Pro plans. Payments are processed securely by Stripe — we do not store your card details. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis; contact us at ignis.revision@gmail.com within 14 days of a charge if you believe there has been an error.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
  • Scrape, copy, or redistribute Ignis content or user uploads at scale
  • Use Ignis to spam, harass, or harm other users
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer or interfere with the platform
  • Create multiple accounts to circumvent download limits or bans

7. Availability & Liability

Ignis is provided "as is". We aim for high availability but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We are not liable for any loss of data, missed revision sessions, or exam outcomes resulting from use of or inability to access Ignis.

The revision materials on Ignis are user-generated. We do not verify their accuracy and accept no responsibility for errors in uploaded content.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email or via an in-app notice. Continued use of Ignis after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

We collect only what we need, we don't sell your data, and we'll always be upfront about how we use it.

1. Who We Are

Ignis Study is the data controller for information collected through this platform. We are based in England. You can contact us at ignis.revision@gmail.com with any privacy-related questions.

2. What We Collect

When you create an account

  • Your name and email address
  • Your role (student, teacher, learner)
  • Your school (optional)
  • Password (stored as a secure hash — we never see it in plain text)

When you use the platform

  • Resources you upload, save, download, or review
  • Groups you join or create
  • Points, badges, and activity for the leaderboard
  • Your IP address and country (for download abuse prevention)

When you subscribe (Pro)

  • Payment is handled entirely by Stripe — we receive only a subscription status and customer ID, never your card details

Automatically collected

  • Basic request logs (handled by Cloudflare)
  • Session tokens stored in your browser's local storage

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide the service — account management, resource sharing, leaderboards, groups
  • To verify teachers — checking email domains or school admin confirmation
  • To prevent abuse — enforcing download limits for guests, detecting ban evasion
  • To process payments — managing Pro subscriptions via Stripe
  • To communicate with you — account notifications, important platform updates

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties. Ever.

4. Legal Basis (UK GDPR)

  • Contract — processing necessary to provide the service you signed up for
  • Legitimate interests — abuse prevention, platform security
  • Consent — optional profile features (public profile, searchable by email)
  • Legal obligation — if required by law to retain or disclose data

5. Who We Share Data With

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate Ignis:

  • Supabase — database and authentication (hosted in EU)
  • Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, and edge functions
  • Stripe — payment processing

Each of these processors has their own data protection commitments. We do not share your data with anyone else.

6. How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Account data — retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion request.
  • Uploaded resources — retained until you delete them or your account is closed
  • Download logs — retained for 90 days for abuse prevention, then anonymised
  • Payment records — retained for 7 years as required by UK financial regulations

7. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your account and personal data
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
  • Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, for consent-based processing

To exercise any of these rights, email ignis.revision@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

8. Cookies & Local Storage

Ignis does not use tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage to store your session token and theme preference. These are essential for the platform to work and are not used for tracking or advertising.

9. Children's Privacy

Ignis is available to users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has registered, please contact us and we will delete their account promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform grows. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app banner. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent update.

Privacy questions or data requests: ignis.revision@gmail.com

Effective: April 2026
Ignis is a learning community. This policy explains what we expect from every user — student, teacher, or learner — to keep the platform safe and useful for everyone.

1. Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out the rules for using Ignis Study, including uploading resources, interacting with other users, and participating in groups. It applies to all account types. Violating this policy may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent termination.

2. Content Standards

Resources you upload must:

  • Be genuine revision or educational materials relevant to UK qualifications (GCSE, A-Level, or equivalent)
  • Be your own original work, or content you have the right to share
  • Be accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • Be clearly titled and categorised to help others find them

Resources must not contain:

  • Copyrighted exam papers or mark schemes reproduced without permission from the exam board
  • Content copied from textbooks, revision guides, or other commercial publications
  • Offensive, discriminatory, or sexually explicit material
  • Deliberately incorrect or misleading information
  • Personal data belonging to other individuals (names, photos, contact details)
  • Advertising, spam, or promotional material
  • Malicious files, scripts, or links

3. Behaviour Standards

All users must:

  • Treat other users with respect in all interactions, including group chats, reviews, and comments
  • Use only one account per person — creating duplicate accounts to bypass limits or bans is prohibited
  • Report content or behaviour that appears to breach this policy

Users must not:

  • Bully, harass, intimidate, or threaten other users
  • Impersonate another person, teacher, or institution
  • Solicit personal information from other users, especially minors
  • Use groups or messaging features to share content unrelated to education or revision
  • Attempt to contact other users outside the platform for non-educational purposes
  • Manipulate the points or leaderboard system through fake activity

4. Teacher-Specific Obligations

Teachers and school administrators have additional responsibilities:

  • You must hold a genuine teaching role at a UK institution to register as a Teacher
  • Resources shared under a teacher account carry implied authority — ensure they are accurate and appropriate
  • Do not use Ignis to distribute confidential internal school materials
  • If you manage student groups, you are responsible for moderating content within those groups

5. Safeguarding

Ignis takes the safety of young users seriously. Many of our users are under 18, and we expect all users to act accordingly.

  • Any content or behaviour that could endanger, exploit, or cause harm to a minor will result in immediate account termination and may be reported to the relevant authorities
  • Adults using the platform must not engage in private communication with minors for any non-educational purpose
  • If you become aware of any safeguarding concern involving an Ignis user, please contact us immediately at ignis.revision@gmail.com

6. Downloads & Fair Use of the Platform

  • Guest users are subject to daily download limits. Attempting to bypass these limits (e.g. through automated tools, multiple sessions, or VPNs) is prohibited
  • Bulk downloading or scraping resources — whether for redistribution, AI training, or commercial use — is strictly prohibited
  • Resources downloaded from Ignis are for your personal revision use only and must not be re-uploaded to other platforms

7. Enforcement

We review reported content and behaviour on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the severity, we may:

  • Issue a warning
  • Remove the offending content
  • Temporarily suspend the account
  • Permanently terminate the account
  • Report the matter to law enforcement or relevant safeguarding bodies where required

We aim to be fair and proportionate. If you believe action has been taken against your account in error, you can appeal by emailing ignis.revision@gmail.com.

8. Reporting

If you encounter content or behaviour that breaches this policy, you can:

  • Use the report button on any resource or user profile
  • Email us directly at ignis.revision@gmail.com with details of the issue

All reports are treated confidentially. We do not reveal the identity of the reporter to the reported user.

Ignis respects intellectual property. If you believe your copyrighted material has been shared on our platform without permission, this page explains how to request its removal.

1. Our Position on Copyright

Ignis Study is a platform for sharing user-created revision materials. We do not permit the upload of copyrighted content without the rights holder's permission. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Past exam papers and mark schemes owned by exam boards (e.g. AQA, Edexcel/Pearson, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas, SQA)
  • Content from commercial textbooks, revision guides, or workbooks
  • Diagrams, illustrations, or photographs owned by third parties
  • Any material reproduced from another website, platform, or publication without a licence to share it

Users who repeatedly upload copyrighted material may have their accounts suspended or terminated.

2. Submitting a Takedown Request

If you are the owner (or authorised agent of the owner) of copyrighted material that has been uploaded to Ignis without permission, you may submit a takedown request by emailing ignis.revision@gmail.com with the following information:

  • Your full name and the organisation you represent (if applicable)
  • A description of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed
  • The URL(s) or title(s) of the resource(s) on Ignis that you want removed
  • A statement confirming that you are the rights holder or are authorised to act on their behalf
  • A statement confirming that the information provided is accurate and made in good faith
  • Your contact details (email and, optionally, a phone number)

3. How We Handle Requests

Upon receiving a valid takedown request:

  • We will review the request and assess the claimed infringement
  • If valid, we will remove or disable access to the content as soon as reasonably practicable — typically within 5 working days
  • We will notify the user who uploaded the content that it has been removed and the reason for removal
  • We keep a record of takedown requests for our own compliance purposes

4. Counter-Notices

If your content has been removed and you believe this was an error — for example, you are the original author, or the content is not protected by copyright — you may submit a counter-notice by emailing ignis.revision@gmail.com with:

  • Your name and Ignis username
  • The resource that was removed
  • An explanation of why you believe the removal was in error
  • A statement confirming that the information is accurate and made in good faith

We will review counter-notices and may reinstate the content if the claim is found to be valid. If the dispute cannot be resolved informally, we may direct both parties to seek independent legal advice.

5. Repeat Infringers

Ignis operates a repeat infringer policy. Users who receive multiple valid takedown notices may face:

  • Temporary suspension of upload privileges
  • Permanent restriction from uploading
  • Account termination

The threshold and response is determined on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the nature and scale of the infringement.

6. Proactive Measures

We also take steps to prevent copyrighted material from appearing on the platform in the first place:

  • Upload guidelines clearly state that copyrighted material must not be shared without permission
  • Moderators and the community can flag suspected infringements
  • Resources reported multiple times are prioritised for manual review

7. Good Faith

Submitting a false or misleading takedown request is taken seriously. If a takedown request is found to have been made in bad faith — for example, to suppress a competitor's legitimate content — we reserve the right to disregard future requests from that individual or organisation.

8. Applicable Law

This policy operates under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) and related UK intellectual property law. Nothing in this policy limits any rights or remedies available under UK law.
